Welcome To G in the park

2010, is off to a flying start please see below for more details....

Help for Heroes

The 'G' in the park came about when several former members of the regiment got together and decided it was about time to have an informal gathering and the result was the birth of 'G' in the park.

This event was first thought about when Kirsty and Tony Posey moved back to Scotland from South of the Border.

Tony, had managed to secure some property with a bit of land enough to hold a regiment, in a little known place of Gamrie in Banffshire.

Now in it's fifth year this event gets bigger and bigger with every year that passes, All this by a few dedicated members of the team, any help will be very much appreciated. so if you can help in any way please get in touch with Wullie Gow or Tony Posey, or Pug. As we are not getting any younger why not turn up and see some old (very in some cases) faces and join in the festivities, remember it is open to family members as well, this year we had our youngest member (have a look at the photo's).

We are now starting the preparations for out Fifth event, and it is getting bigger by the year as the word spreads, please look at the galleries for a quick update on what you have been missing.

Please feel free to leave us a message in our guestbook and let us know what you think about the site.

As the preparations are now underway for "G in the park 2010" the date is yet to be confirmed, Please return to this page for an up date.

Department of Health

The following message is sent by Bill Mackie.

                                      WRITTEN MINISTERIAL STATEMENT
                                            DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
                                            Medical care for veterans
                                            Monday 11 January 2010

The Minister of State, Department of Health (Mike O’Brien):  The Government is committed to ensuring that those who are seriously injured or who develop mental health problems whilst in the service of their country will receive the best possible care from the National Health Service for the rest of their lives.

The Department is today announcing a package of measures to support service personnel who have received serious injuries whilst on active service. I have worked closely with my hon Friend the Minister for Veterans (Kevan Jones) to put in place new arrangements with the Ministry of Defence for life care planning, together with a guarantee that all those seriously injured will receive an early and comprehensive assessment of their long term needs. It is intended that those needing continuing healthcare they will receive high quality care for life based on a regular review of their needs overseen by an NHS case manager.

As committed in New Horizons - a cross-government vision for Mental Health, the Department is also responding to concerns expressed about the impact of recent and current deployments on the mental health of those in and those leaving the armed forces. The community mental health services currently being piloted in six mental health trusts are expected to continue their work beyond the end of the pilot period. The findings from the evaluation of these pilots will allow other mental health services to gear their services towards meeting the needs of veterans. We expect that all mental health services will make special provision for veterans during 2011-12.

In addition, we are providing grant funding for Combat Stress to work directly with mental health trusts to ensure that the services they provide are accessible to and appropriate for military veterans. The two Departments have today signed a tripartite agreement to facilitate the work that Combat Stress will be doing in partnership with the Government. The Department will also be extending its Third Sector Strategic Partner Programme with the third sector to include the involvement of charities representing those in the armed forces, their families and veterans.

The major improvements in trauma care made in recent years by Defence Medical Services and the excellent work of the emergency teams in Afghanistan means that people are now surviving injuries which would have taken their lives in former times.  The Department has previously undertaken to ensure that recent Service leavers who have lost a limb while serving will – where clinically appropriate - be entitled to receive from the NHS an equivalent  standard of prosthetic limb to those provided by Defence Medical Services.
Today I can announce that this undertaking will be extended to all veterans who have lost a limb whilst serving, where clinically appropriate.

The Department will also ensure that a responsible Director within strategic health authorities, together with primary care trust champions for the armed forces are identified to advocate for them and to ensure that their needs are fully reflected in commissioning plans and service provision.

The Department will also be working with the Ministry of Defence to ensure an improved transfer of medical records to the NHS on retirement from the Armed Forces.  This will facilitate GP awareness of the veteran status of new patients to ensure veterans receive their entitlement to priority treatment for any injuries or illness attributable to their time serving in the Armed Forces.

Finally, the Department is working with the military to develop clearer and easier routes into accredited NHS jobs to provide employment opportunities for those leaving the armed forces.

Regards,
Bill Mackie.

Welcome to Raceland, Situated just a short drive from the City of Edinburgh outskirts, Raceland is Scotland's number one outdoor karting, indoor karting and paintball venue. Jan's Diner overlooks the indoor circuit and is open throughout events, offering hot and cold snacks and beverages.

Subject: Venue Confirmed, Alright Guys, just to let you all Know, we have now managed to secure a Venue for our Reunion. This will take place at the Ex Servicemans Club just off Leith Walk in Edinburgh. This is thanks to the QOH association ( Edinburgh Branch ) who use this venue every year and pointed us in this direction. The good news about this venue is, because we a trying to raise money for Help for Heroes, they are going to allow us to use this venue at no Charge. This will enable us to raise more money for H4H, which I think is Fantastic. We are looking at several ways to make the night memerable and raise money for H4H, these include a Casino Night, T-Shirts being made for the Reunion, Charity Raffle etc etc.
I hope you can all make it and if anyone has any Ideas on how to make it a Good night and raise lots of Money for H4H please email me on highlanderspastandpresent@yahoo.co.uk or Phone 07845428682 Thanks Again, Scotty Mckendry.

Pokey time

The following message and attachment are forwarded by Maurice Gibson.

Sir/ Madame, The Veterans in Prison Association are holding their first conference on Friday 16th April 2010, 0930 -1630 hours, including lunch, at the London Voluntary Resource centre which is a purpose built Conference Centre offering 16 rooms.
The Resource Centre is situated, approximately 200 yards from the Holloway Road underground station and on main bus routes from King's Cross and London Bridge.
Veterans in the Criminal Justice System represent 8.5% of the entire prison population and 6% of all those on probation and parole. Research published by the National Association of Probation Officers in September 2009 revealed that misuse of alcohol or drugs was a major issue in over half the cases and nearly half were suffering from diagnosed or undiagnosed post traumatic stress disorder or depression.
The principal offence was one of violence, particularly in a domestic setting. There was predominance in the use of substantial amounts of alcohol when offences occurred and yet few were identified as former veterans either at the point of arrest, the commission of their pre-sentence reports or on reception into prison.
This unique one day conference will bring together those who know most about this subject - and most notably Veterans themselves.
The VIPA mission is the Veterans in prison a voice; we aim to offer guidance & support to our Veterans whilst they are apart of the Criminal Justice System and after release.
VIPA would be ever so grateful if you showed your support for our Veterans by attending the Conference.

Thank you very much.

Dave Wilson.
Will Thurbin.
